We are starting our adventures in Tribal Trouble with 20 peasants, but after some time, we will build strong economy and army to attack others for even more power. What about missions and quests? First of all, they are called “stories”, and we are completing them to unlock more stories. First one is very simple, but later all of them are real challenge even for free online strategy games veterans! Game has good looking graphics, Viking have got large noses and are looking cartoonish. I suppose their big noses are from cold and winter I guess…Battles are fast and spectacular, but game isn’t violent, it’s rather humoristic and cartoonish. This makes the game more flexible, also great as a strategy game for younger audience. We are developing our own small empire, step by step, from places where we are hiring units to guard towers for defense our Viking village. There are also “Tropical chickens” (Turpiculus Exoticus Pullus) and these little animals are very important, because of their magical powers…
Overall Tribal Trouble is very good, one of the very innovative free online strategy games; with humor, quality and splendid idea for a game. Game can be very challenging especially if we are talking about all PvP features; fighting against other players isn’t easy. 2. Dungeon Overlord
Dungeon Overlord is humorous and innovating online strategy game, showing us that even its Facebook game, little bit similar to others it can bring a lot of fun. As a Dungeon Overlord we must create our own, underground empire, acquire treasures and control our minions to get the job done!
On the beginning of the game, we are entering helpful tutorial to get use to gameplay and game mechanics. Everything should be clear after tutorial ends, so I guess its ok. In our dungeons we will live creatures like goblins, orcs, warlock and other evil minions. As we are developing our economy, we will find out how important is to get our goblins to the strategic resources – crystals and iron. How to get them fast is the most important task to get this whole dungeon business running. Strong economy is the key to success, but strong friends who are giving us free gifts – as well! Combat is simple; we just have to tell our minions what to do. After receiving orders, minions are doing their job and we are waiting how things have gone – they can do it right or die trying. During our road to ultimate evilness, we are getting more territory to develop next dungeons (some are smaller, some are bigger). Like in other free online strategy games on Facebook, there are some social features, helping us in the game. Of course having 200 friends can give you a lot, but I guess it’s not the only way we can play. There is also enjoyable PvP, where we can compete with other players – Dungeon owners.
Dungeon Overlord is very good game, even though it’s similar to other Facebook games and online strategy games. Game is good enough to spend some time constructing your unique dungeon filled with monsters and evil. If game reminds you Dungeon Keeper, well you are right, idea for the game is similar – we need to build and defend a dungeon. Like in other free online strategy games, there are many competing dungeons around us, so way to ultimate supremacy, may be difficult…
3. Ikariam
Ikariam is one of the online strategy games, similar to Civilization and Age of Empires, but available as free to play browser strategy game. We are managing and developing our own village (Polis) on an island and our task it to expand our borders for money and glory.
After entering the game we get our own City – Polis, on the island. What you should know, there are no computer controlled opponents, so every island is owned by a real player. To make our Polis running, we need to gather resources, and to do that, we need to send citizens to work. After some time we can construct building and constructing each one of them is taking some real time (like in other free online strategy games). Later building takes a long hours or even days to develop. Like in Civilization, we can speed it up, by adding scientists to the job (I mean metaphorically…). There are many various technologies to research like gunpowder, flight or anatomy and certain research opens next more advanced technology. After researching certain technology we can also mine rare recourses (sulfur, marble) or luxury resources (wine, grapes). After building a palace, we can expand our borders and manage more territory; of course this way we can irritate our neighbors. That’s why it’s important to join an alliance and have a lot of in-game friends – politics is very important part of every online strategy game. Similarly to other games in the genre, progress takes some time and we need a lot of effort to create powerful Polis. Game is becoming more and more complex which is good, but game can eat a lot of time!
Ikariam is one of the best browser free online strategy games I ever played, very similar to exceptional games like Civilization or Age of Empires. It’s enjoyable, fun and in my opinion one of rare strategy games, really good and worth to play. The more we play game is becoming more entertaining and big either! Ikariam it’s very good for casuals or strategy maniacs – both types of players will be happy about it.
4. Land of Chaos Online
Land of Chaos Online is high quality strategy game and role playing game mix, which makes exceptional game. Exciting battles, innovative gameplay and third person shooter feature in DotA (Defense of the Ancients) style – just enter the world of Land of Chaos Online.
Land of Chaos Online or Loco, its innovative game, little bit looking like DotA games and Savage 2 mix. Sounds weird? There are a lot of various heroes to pick, from berserk monsters to funny looking wizards. While picking character we are also selecting different stats, skills and weapons. Its important part of the game, so better think twice. First of all we need to pick our character, and we can begin game tutorial where we can get all basic information about gameplay and mechanics. I guess because very original and complex game, everyone should complete tutorial! It’s very easy to get lost in LoCO. After that we are ready to enter the battle and compete with other players in 2 spectacular games modes available. Hopefully developer will add more game modes in the future. There are 2 game modes in LOCO, Annihilation – typical deathmatch and Battlefield – basically DotA kind of game where to 2 teams are fighting to destroy opposing base, while fighting other players and NPC monsters (creeps) attacking each team’s base. During this game mode we are playing third person shooter perspective, so it’s DotA shooter (!?). Game is using Unreal Engine 3 so it’s looking well, though sound is little bit poor and I guess it’s the biggest cons in the game.
Land of Chaos Online is really unique game, mixing few genres into something exceptionally enjoyable. LoCO is worth to play, with great skill system, quality and spectacular gameplay. I guess it’s hard to tell it’s one of the free online strategy games or rpg, but I know it’s splendid game for everyone who like original ideas and innovative gameplay.
5. Edgeword
Edgeword is free online strategy game set in alien world somewhere far away in the deepest corners of the galaxy. Managing our base isn’t easy, especially surrounded by many enemies, willing to destroy our home.
First thing we have to do is to secure our base and organize everything related to producing resources, so we need to develop mines and refineries just like defensive turret or barracks to hire some soldiers. Like in other online free strategy games, good protection is the key to success. To develop structures we need some time, it takes real world time to build them, so gameplay is typically slow-paced. Like in similar games, we have some period of time when other players can attack us, but when it run out, be prepared for many attacks. Edgeworld combat is very innovating, so finally we can do more during the battle. For the example, we can scout base to find out more about defenses or what we can pillage and then we can attack. Now we can deploy our troops without any problems to attack weakest point in enemy’s defense and this way have more chances to win. There are a lot of various units available in the game, so we can flexibly dedicate which units, where and how, are best to complete the task. I guess it’s great idea and that’s why Edgeworld is now one of the best games I ever saw. Also building your base is more challenging this way, because enemies have much more ways to make our lives harder. Where to place defensive turrets? Where build other structures to make them secured? Everything is important!
Edgeworld is currently one of the best free online strategy games available on Facebook/browser. With innovative battle, overall quality, great sci-fi world and complexity is must try. Edgeworld is looking exceptionally good, with detailed and quality graphics or even menu – everything is very well made. It’s piece of great game, and their developer Kabam games, really did a good piece of work indeed.
